A motorized screen turns a covered porch into a room for the evening — the mosquitoes stay outside, the sun is cut by most of its heat, and when the screen is up there is nothing there at all. The screens live in a housing at the header and run in side tracks, which is what stops them billowing in a breeze the way a hanging curtain does.
The fabric is the decision. Insect mesh keeps bugs out and lets the breeze through. Solar fabric adds shade and privacy at the cost of some airflow, and it is what stops a west-facing porch being unusable at five o'clock in July. Openings on the same porch can have different fabrics.

How do motorized screens work?
The screen rolls up into a housing at the top of the opening and drops down side tracks at the touch of a remote, a wall switch or a phone. In the tracks it does not billow or gap; rolled up, it disappears. A wind sensor raises it automatically in a storm. It turns a covered porch into a bug-free, shaded room and back again in seconds.
What fabric should I choose for a motorized screen?
Insect mesh to keep bugs out with the most airflow and view; a solar fabric if the porch faces west and the point is shade and privacy as much as bugs. Solar fabrics come in different densities, and the tighter the weave the more shade and the less air. Different openings on the same porch can have different fabrics.
